How to cure a heartburn by using a holistic approach and dietary principles

Treating the whole body in relation to symptoms is a Holistic method. Since heartburn is not related to the heart in any way and involves the digestive system, stomach acids and esophagus, a person who suffers
should look at the whole picture and not just reach for antacids thinking that it is the only answer to how to cure a heartburn. As stomach acids are important to digestion, very often the cause of heartburn is not too much acid, but too little.

How to cure a heartburn: Make changes to your diet

Try these dietary changes first as they will affect the whole digestive process and will get you on a sure way for the cure of heartburn:
  • Limit foods that can cause gastric upsets like coffee, tea, fruit juices, onions, chocolate, spicy foods, fatty foods, sugar, French fries, ground beef, chicken nuggets, Buffalo wings, ice cream, cottage cheese, sour cream, wine, alcohol, donuts, and chips.

  • Then try eating four or five smaller meals instead of one big one, and never eat your last meal within two or three hours from your bedtime.

  • Sleep with your head elevated by using a couple of firm pillows to avoid the backflow of stomach juices up the esophagus and disturbing of your sleep.

  • Avoid wearing any constricting garments during the day as this will put pressure on your stomach and may delay normal digestion.

  • After eliminating your trigger foods and as much sugar and fat as possible from your daily meals and you still suffer from heartburn, you can try some home remedies.

How to cure a heartburn: The home remedies

Two highly recommended home remedies are drinking one tablespoon of mustard mixed in water or two tablespoons apple cider vinegar with some honey in a glass of water. It has also been suggested that you drink either of these mixes up to three times a day. Swigging the ACV undiluted, drinking pickle juice from the jar or taking mustard straight with no water have all been tried effectively for severe heartburn that does not respond to the diluted methods.

Another natural way for the cure of heartburn is to drink the juice of such vegetables as carrots, cucumbers, radishes or beet root. Vegetables are highly alkaline and work wonders on acidity. All of these foods are rich in anti-oxidants, vitamins and minerals to boost the overall health and healing of the body.

Drinking two cups of aloe Vera juice containing 98% aloe Vera, three times daily is another remedy. Aloe Vera is a nutritional power house which is antiviral, antibacterial, and anti-fungal. Plus, it boosts the immune system.

Don't automatically reach for the antacids the next time heartburn attacks. Try some of nature's remedies first as a cure of heartburn. And remember that treating the symptoms is just the first step. Until the whole body is well and balanced, the problem of heartburn is likely to return.
